Meet the artists involved in the project.
Brilliant Corners’ curator and artist Kiat, is also the co-founder of artist collective Syndicate and multi-disciplinary studio System Sovereign.The adventurous themes in his work are closely linked to the artist’s fascination with emotions and freedom. His freeform creative approaches have led him to develop work across multiple mediums - from spray paint on walls and acrylic on canvas, to music for dance floors, theatrical stages and art installations, to works that blur the line between fine art and design for brands and cultural institutions.
Kiat has developed work internationally and locally for the Peranakan Museum, Swarovski, ArtScience Museum, Dazed Online, Adidas, Dior, Selfridges, Singapore Tourism Promotion Board, Nike, Beams, SHOWstudio, as well as BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra.
Born in 1974 in Armenia, Columbia, Didier ‘Jaba’ Mathieu moved to Liege, Belgium where he studied Illustration at St. Luc Institution of Arts. After painting murals around the world for more than 25 years, and working as a concept artist and digi-matte painter for feature films such as “Transformers”, “Iron Man” and “Star Trek” at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), a division of Lucasfilm, he received a MFA at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore (2018). Mathieu’s street art under the moniker “Jaba”, paintings and drawings, digital illustration, and mixed media all reference astro-futurism, abstract mathematics, alphabetical constructivism and facial cubism.
He continues to participate in numerous graffiti performances and festivals in Asia, Europe, South America and Africa. Singapore is embellished by several of his fresco’s, of which the most well known are in Haji lane, forging until this day the reputation of the country in Street Art.
The Ink and Clog Studio®, established in 2012, is the emergence of two individual visual artists unified and developed themselves into a distinct style called the ‘Geo-Graffiti’, a style that encompass the concept of calculative geometric patterns and shapes that weave into figurative subject matters and landscapes.
The Ink and Clog Studio® have created a few iconic urban murals globally; in London, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Mexico, United States, Hong Kong and other parts of the South East Asia Region. The Ink and Clog Studio® have been commissioned with brand names such as Mercedes Benz, Google, Microsoft, Apple, Oracle Digital Prime, Qantas, National Arts Council and MightyJaxx. Their vision is to create a synergy between the traditional urban arts and technology.
Lydia is an illustration artist as well as co-founder at Tell Your Children Studios based out of Singapore. Also known by her artist moniker Oak & Bindi, she began her journey in an artistic career with murals commissioned by local stores and companies, which eventually took her to various cities such as Shanghai, Jakarta as well as New York to land her work in.
Lydia’s work can also be found in the digital space with commissioned projects by Esquire Singapore, Frank by OCBC and she also got to hold a Today at Apple session in March of 2019 in celebration of Women’s month.
Her work has also led her to a number of collaborations in the streetwear and fashion space working creatively with a couple of local stores such as Goodluck Bunch and L’armoire.
She got to represent Singapore as part of her latest collaboration with VANS as a part of their OTW Art Collection series, alongside other South East Asian artists from Seoul, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and more.
