@brilliantcorners.club

Named after Thelonious Monk’s seminal 1957 album Brilliant Corners, @brilliantcorners.club is an ongoing effort to meaningfully engage the community through the arts.

The title track to Monk’s album shared its name, and was infamously stitched together from 25 different takes by producer Orrin Keepnews. In the same vein, the Brilliant Corners project is a pastiche of multiple different narratives, united by a common theme — the beauty of everyday experiences.

The first iteration of this initiative debuted in 2017, during the Aliwal Urban Arts Festival; it was an open-air arts event which featured a wide variety of art forms. It strove to facilitate the discovery of art in the every day, showcasing the finesse and craftsmanship of our local artists.

Since then, we have curated and installed various art projects; from staging electronic music showcases in Tampines, to co-creating art murals in Geylang, Bedok and Bukit Merah, to publishing three music compilation inspired by, and made for the neighbourhoods.

Brilliant Corners was also the first in Singapore to roll out multiple art murals, accompanied by its own soundtracks in the neighbourhoods.

We believe in the moments of connection which the arts can bring to communities, uplifting the human spirit, improving mental health and paving the way for better living.
