Exhibition Opening 📍 Sept 4 at 2pm - 4pm 📍

Over ten Sunday afternoons, 25 to 30 Toa Payoh residents took part in a series of art workshops ranging from drawing to print-making, photography and writing—each facilitated by a local artist in the respective field.

This exhibition showcases the pattern-making and photography works created by the residents, inspired by each other's food stories and memories of growing up in the second oldest satellite town in Singapore.

This artwork was borne out of a group conversation on the bus enroute to Singapore Art Musuem for the residents’ art day out. Residents shared stories about hornbills’ sightings in the neighbourhood and an Internet search revealed a lighthearted news story about how a hornbill ate a Toa Payoh resident’s chilli plant. 😅

Peonies were then added to the mural as they are often featured on Peranakan decorative serving plates, symbolising love, honour, happiness. Residents then painted petals-like features on the nearby wall columns.
